Jean-Christian Bourcart is a French photographer and video artist born in 1960, known for his bold work exploring the margins of society and the shadowy zones of reality. Combining documentary photography, staging and a conceptual approach, his work questions the boundary between visible and invisible, private and public, voyeurism and revelation. His approach stands out for its drive to transgress social, moral or technical limits: whether infiltrating forbidden places, capturing anonymous everyday scenes, or projecting disturbing images into public space, Bourcart uses photography as an act of resistance, a way of questioning the established order. Moving between personal inquiry and social critique, his work is marked by provocation, lucidity and a strong political dimension. He champions a photography that disturbs and confronts, but above all reveals what we often prefer to ignore. His work has been exhibited at numerous international institutions (MoMA, MEP, Mamco) and has received several prestigious awards, including the Prix Niépce and the Prix Nadar.
