Sainte-Victoire #5
The Images in this series come from a residency in Aix en Provence entitled Archives d'Aix en Provence: Still lifes, studio views and landscapes of the Sainte Victoire , with the multiple references that Aix en Provence inspired me: Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) represented Sainte Victoire more than 80 times. His work opened a path towards abstraction. There is a book by the American photographer Harry Calahan (1912-1999): French archives which brings together the images taken during his stay in the city in 1957/1958: Landscapes, street images, still lifes, particular treatment of contrasts, overprints… Places are subjectively loaded with countless information that we perceive based on our interests, our history and the strategies that we can try to put in place to understand an environment, and travel through time too.
