Les mois noirs #2
Description
Photographing the world of fishing without going out to sea. I stayed on the quayside to bear witness to a reality too often forgotten: every job at sea creates four jobs on land. I went into the shipyards, the marine forges, the fish-processing workshops and the canneries to shed light on the men and women who work in the shadows. There I met the workers who make and deliver the ice that will keep the fish fresh on board; the carpenters and blacksmiths who build and maintain the boats that set out in pursuit of the catch; the fish-market workers who sort, cut and ship the fish that will end up on market stalls around the world. I travelled through Le Guilvinec and the coastline of the Pays Bigouden to capture the bodies and the eyes of these workers who take part in the great odyssey of fishing, and to reveal a world that so often escapes our gaze.
