Demba Sarr
Studio Baye #10
Description
A photographer from Matam, in the Senegal River Valley, Demba Sarr has spent his life capturing his hometown. He has taken all his photographs in Matam since the beginning of the 1970s. Part of his negatives almost disappeared: they were found under rubble during the renovation of his house. His regional collection is now preserved and digitized by Lost Memory Archive, an initiative founded by Cheikh Tidiane Mbaye and Adelina Sasnauskaite to restore the work of local Senegalese photographers. His images are a rare testimony to life in a town in northern Senegal during the 70s.
